Hey, you! You look like you could use a vacation! And your friends probably could too. Why not ball tf out and rent a stunning home somewhere pretty? FWIW, I think you deserve it.
If you’re in the market for a gorgeous vacation home—whether for a bachelorette trip, girls’ getaway, family reunion, or literally any other reason under the sun—you’re in luck. Vrbo, the vacation rental website with over two million(!) properties, just announced the 2023 Vacation Homes of the Year, featuring 10 of the most jaw-dropping properties across the country, plus one in Mexico that is soooo chic.
And these aren’t just any old houses—the brand put in work picking the crème de la crème of rentals, with strict criteria based on reviews, ratings (there’s nothing under 4.9 stars on here), Premier Host status, price, and amenities. On the list is everything from a multi-level mansion that sleeps 35 in Florida to a $440-a-night hideaway in Texas’s Hill Country. There’s truly something for every group, and…honestly just scroll down. Come for the wanderlust, stay for the interior design.
Warning: You’re going to want to book quickly. Something tells me these spots are gonna be rented out asap. In the meantime, tell the group chat I say hi!
1. The Oasis Estate
📍 Palm Springs, California
Dare I say this mega-mansion rivals Kris Jenner’s Palm Springs pad? Just two hours from LA, this home is the ultimate desert escape for the girls, equipped with a hot tub, heated pool and spa, 18-person dining pavilion, poolside shower, patio dedicated to party games (cornhole! bocce! Jenga!), and so much indoor and outdoor lounge space you won’t know where to hang out next. There’s also plenty of space for friends to sleep—and primp—peacefully thanks to the nine bedrooms and nine bathrooms…though you may have to fight over who gets the primary suite, which has an Alaskan King bed (which is 50 percent larger than California King 😱).
Average price per night: $3,095
Coolest amenity: Vintage trailer on the property for glamping.
2. The Happy Roadrunner
📍 Phoenix, Arizona
If you’ve been dreaming of Phoenix for your bachelorette (aren’t you trendy), you’re going to want to click “book” before this baby’s dates are blacked out for the next few years. Measuring in at a whopping 5,000 square feet, this property sits at the base of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve (talk about VIEWS), right in the heart of the city. You’ll be surrounded by nature—and may even be greeted by some hummingbirds and roadrunner families through the window while sitting ’round the dinner table—but still minutes from all the action (aka the bars). The backyard is also pretty much a resort in itself. Enough said.
Average price per night: $1,245
Coolest amenity: Fully-equipped game room (with a sit-down Mario Kart machine!!!).
3. The Chasestone
📍 Lake Norman, North Carolina
This absolutely massive home has me screaming “HEADS CAROLINA!” (Yes, that’s a country music reference.) I can’t think of a group that wouldn’t enjoy a little R&R while spreading out across all three floors—especially those who love being by the water. The property actually includes 600 feet of private shoreline, and the hosts can set you up with a boat rental so you can spend your days afloat on Lake Norman, bopping around to some of the waterfront restaurants. Oh, and if you have a pup, they’re invited too. You can bring up to two dogs with no pet fee, or more for a small price.
Average price per night: $4,022
Coolest amenity: The concierge team will help you book a boat, personal chef, massage therapist, photographer, and more.
4. The Contemporary Gem
📍 Manzanita, Oregon
You’re basically getting a big hug from Mama Nature when you stay in this luxe treehouse, which, as you can see, appears to literally float atop some lush branches. But don’t get it twisted—you won’t be camping, or even glamping, in this house. It was completed in 2018, and everything is open and airy, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Neahkahnie Beach (sunset views, how do you do?), which is walking distance from the property. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can pop on over to nearby Oswald West State Park or Nehalem Bay State Park, or, if you’d rather just
chill drink, the historic Nehalem Bay Winery is a quick Uber away. Cheers!
Average price per night: $1,250
Coolest amenity: Outdoor dining space overlooking Neahkahnie Beach.
5. Ocean View Oasis
📍 Montauk, New York
Is there anything chicer than a trip to the Hamptons? I don’t think so. And this home might be one of the chicest rentals in the Hamptons, right in the heart of Montauk (you know, where the cool kids hang out). All five of the bedrooms have panoramic views of the ocean, so no one will be salty about which room they get, but you’ll likely want to park yourself in the living room, which is so sun-soaked you may need to wear sunscreen. That said, the chef’s kitchen, 2,200-square-foot deck, and back lawn (complete with a fire pit!) are also great spots to convene with friends.
Average price per night: $3,665
Coolest amenity: Finished basement with a movie theater and art studio!
6. The Riverfront Hideaway
📍 Dripping Springs, Texas
If your dream vacation includes not having to see a single human being, then you’ll want to book this secluded spot ASAP. It sits in the middle of five acres of land in prime Texas Hill Country, with direct access to a gorgeous, flowing river. Rustic and cozy while still boasting high design, the property was built for indoor/outdoor living, complete with an open-concept living room that leads out to a wraparound covered terrace with plenty of seating. Look at the photos…I’m obsessed. And if you decide you do want to see humans, you’re in luck, because you’re only an hour’s drive from downtown Austin.
Average price per night: $440
Coolest amenity: An indoor-outdoor wraparound terrace with views for days.
7. 30A My Way
📍 Rosemary Beach, Florida
I’ve been told that Rosemary Beach is about to be the new It Spot in the U.S. (although I was also told it needs to be gatekept…sorry not sorry), so this property is officially on my to-book list. In addition to being located right on the water and having private boardwalk access, this house also has a gorg private pool overlooking the Emerald Coast, surrounded by plenty of seating—including a full-sized bed swing. There’s also a putting green if you’re a Golf Girl™. Long story short, if you’ve got a really big crew, this needs to be on your radar asap—it can fit 35 people comfortably, and if that’s not a miracle, I don’t know what is.
Average price per night: $3,921
Coolest amenity: Private boardwalk on the beach.
8. Port of Call
📍 Isle of Palms, South Carolina
Also steps from the sand is this spacious beach house, located just 30 mins from Charleston in Isle of Palms (which, I can confirm, is a gorgeous little coastal city). It kind of looks like Barbie’s Malibu Dreamhouse in the best way possible, with all the amenities you need to enjoy the sun—including two massive balconies that run the entire length of the house, a pool (duh), a spacious deck, two outdoor dining areas, a putting green, and a fire pit. It’s also equipped with an elevator, which we love for accessibility.
Average price per night: $5,456
Coolest amenity: 1,500 square feet of outdoor deck space.
9. Salmonfly Lodge
📍 Victor, Idaho
You just know you’re going to be living your best outdoor life in a place called Salmonfly Lodge. And I don’t know about you, but I’d risk a few mosquito bites to stay in a log cabin this luxe. Located at the foot of Targhee National Forest, this cute lil lodge has panoramic views of Teton Valley thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows that soak the home in sun. This property is fab for trips where you’re combining a couple of different groups or families, because each floor has its own separate living space, so you can get a little privacy when ya want it. And you likely will want some time to relax in the home after a day exploring Grand Teton National Park, which, yup, is only an hour away.
Average price per night: $1,401
Coolest amenity: Two stunnnnning fireplaces.
10. Trestle House
📍 Winter Park, Colorado
Ski bums, you’re going to want to get your booties over here rtfn. The first time I saw this insanely gorgeous property, which is conveniently located just an hour and a half from Denver, I immediately thought of the massive ski house the Kardashians rented in Tahoe that one time. And honestly? This one might be better. Every room in the house looks like it belongs in a five-star hotel, and the (three!) decks look like they were transported from a chic ski lodge in Switzerland. This place is perf for groups where not everyone likes the snow—the adventurous can ski in and out from the lower deck, while those who would rather just drink hot toddies have plenty of space to spread out and do so while overlooking the slopes.
Average price per night: $1,576
Coolest amenity: Ski-in/ski-out access from the lower level patio.
11. Villa Luna Nueva
📍 Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
This property is the only one on the list not located in the U.S., but it certainly deserved its moment in the sun. Plopped in the hills of downtown Cabo, renting this retreat is basically like renting out your own resort…but for a fraction of the price. It’s got all the amenities you’d want from a highly-rated hotel, but everything is private…and we all love feeling a little ~exclusive~ from time to time, amirite?! Bring 11 of your closest friends or family members and have the property’s concierge service prepare the bougiest stay of your life—they’ll set up a private chef, massages, water activities, and so much more.
Average price per night: $1,163
Coolest amenity: Daily maid service included in the price.
