There’s a first time for everything, and there’s no doubt that Doja Cat is making Met Gala 2023 history with her first appearance. The rapper and singer walked the Met steps for the first time this year and captured the crowd’s attention in an Oscar de la Renta look that paid homage to one of Karl Lagerfeld’s very favorite things: His cat Choupette.
The fluffy white Birman cat, the beloved pet of the late designer being honored at the Met Gala this year, may not be making an appearance at the exclusive event, but Doja Cat took the opportunity to accessorize her gown with bejeweled cat ears, a claw-like manicure, and facial prosthetics that transformed her into the chicest feline we’ve ever seen.
She kept red carpet comments brief, telling Vogue, “It’s very nice,” and that she had no idea what to expect from the night. “They don’t tell me what will happen, I hope to have some good conversation,” she said.
Of course, she’s no stranger to putting in the time in the makeup chair for jaw-dropping looks: In January, she was plastered with 5,000 red Swarovski crystals for a head-to-toe scarlet look at Schiaparelli’s couture show, making for an unforgettable fashion statement.
